There's a new reality show about love on SA screens (eeep!)
We’ve *been* waiting
Get ready for more guilty pleasure-infused Thursday evenings, because a new reality show hits SA screens soon, and it’s just the thing we’ve been looking for to fill the void left by The Bachelor SA.
The Single Wives SA airs on M-Net from 3 September at 7pm. We know what you’re thinking: what is a single wife? Here’s what we know:
The local show, produced by Black Swan Media, is based on the Australian format which launched on Netflix in July this year (we know what we’ll be binging later). The SA show follows the journey of six previously married women in search of another chance at love.
The six women won’t be thrown in the deep end. They’ll receive guidance and advice from transformational coach (whatever that is) Justin Cohen and TV host and relationship guru Mapaseka Mokwele.
But we know why you’re really here and we will oblige. Meet the Single Wives:
Tori Celliers (47)
This Durbanite, fitness queen and mom of two is ready for love after immense heartbreak and trauma. Her marriage of over eight years ended after a string of infidelities, and before the couple (who remained friends) could reconcile, her ex was tragically murdered. If we’re rooting for anyone to find true love it’s Tori!
Nikki Nell (42)
Nikki, from Randpark Ridge in Randburg, married her second serious boyfriend, and the couple divorced after 12 years. The marketing manager is ready to get back onto the dating scene and two start a new chapter of her life.
Angel Pather (38)
OK, so get this: Angel, from Johannesburg, got divorced after 12 years of being in an unhappy relationship. Then, she got married again – to the same man. She has since divorced her ex for good, but the mom of two says she struggles to commit out of fear of attracting a love interest that will disappoint her. Fingers crossed that Angel will find a, well, angel.
Genevieve Stander (37)
This Nelspruit native needs a serious breakthrough in the love division: first her ex-husband had an affair and then her first boyfriend after the divorce cheated on her. #MenAreTrash. The mother of two has now got her life back on track after a bout with substance abuse. She says she’s not ashamed of her past, but would like to find out “if it is something that [she] is doing wrong.” No, girl. Cheating. Is. Never. OK.
Chantelle Thrupp-Snow (33)
This corporate account executive from Jozi dreams of a white-picket-fence lifestyle but says life hasn’t been kind to her. Her first two marriages failed, she was diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder, and her last relationship ended with a broken engagement. Hectic. “I need to learn how to make the right choices,” she says about her journey on the show. You go girl!
Helen Zondo (50)
Helen is a public transport operator from Fourways, and lost her faith in men when her relationship “of ten beautiful years” took a dark turn. She doesn’t elaborate on the relationship, but says it left her scarred and left to face life alone. She has been single for the last 14 years, and focuses all her energy on raising her daughter alone. We really hope Helen gets her happy ending!
Tune in to M-Net every Thursday night at 7pm to see if the Single Wives find lasting love!
