Taylor Swift announces surprise album “Folklore”
Feel like you’ve been unproductive during lockdown? Taylor Swift is about to make you feel even worse
Taylor Swift surprised and delighted fans today when she announced via social media that her eighth studio album, Folklore, will be released tonight (Eastern US time).
In her surprise post the musician said:
“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise ?Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”
The announcement was pretty unusual for Swift, who usually puts her fans through months of waiting with clever marketing techniques, teasers and easter eggs before she releases new work.
“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with,” the artist said.
The album was written and recorded in isolation, but Swift has still been able to collaborate with some of her musical heroes, including Boniver, Aaron Dessner and longtime creative partner Jack Antonoff.
Folklore will have 16 songs on the album, but the physical deluxe editions will include a bonus track titled The Lakes.
If the album news wasn’t exciting enough, a music video for one of the new singles, titled Cardigan is set to drop at the same time.
