Qiniso Van Damme is looking for love again, and this time she’s making history as South Africa’s first ever Bachelorette, and the first person of colour in the South African version of the franchise!

Fans of the popular reality dating show will recognise Qiniso as one of the firm favourites from season two, where she competed for the affections of Bachelor Mark Buckner.

The 27-year-old had some iconic and scene stealing moments during her run on The Bachelor, including being the first to arrive on the red carpet to meet Mark (she gave him a plant) and being the first to land a kiss with the hunk while on a trip to Durban.

Fans were heartbroken when she was sent home when the show was down to six hopefuls, right ahead of the hometown visits. She suffered a dental emergency that meant she had to turn down a date with Mark, and it was widely speculated on the Twittersphere that that was the reason she didn’t get a rose.

Van Damme is a model and social anthropology masters student from Cape Town, born to a Belgian father and South African mother in 1993, and her sister is Member of Parliament, Phumzile Van Damme. According to interviews given after the big reveal, the Bachelorette says she’s looking for someone who is “proud to be South African”.

According to M-Net’s head of publicity, Lani Lombard, Van Damme is the perfect star to lead the Bachelorette franchise.

“Qiniso has been a fan favourite right from the start, and we know for sure she will ignite all the passion and excitement that The Bachelorette franchise is renowned for worldwide,” said Lombard.

“Our Queen Qiniso is quirky, sassy, sexy, smart, bold, bubbly, kind, confident, dynamic, in touch with her emotions and true to herself — the type of woman a diverse range of successful men would find irresistible. The timing couldn’t be better. She has reached a point in her life where she is looking for someone to settle down with.”

The Bachelorette SA season 1 is set to air next year, and we can’t wait to see Qiniso find love!
